The Making of an Ugly Christmas Sweater – Free instructions

Last year I was asked to make an ugly Christmas Sweater for my daughter to wear at a party. This is what I came up with.

I used the Easy Peasy Pullover Pattern for the sweater pattern. You can find the pattern Here for free.

I picked a bright red for the main color and white and two different shades of green for the stripes. The black looking color on the sleeves is actually a hunter green. For the trim on the bottom and sleeves I used fun fur.

After I finished putting the sweater together I made the snowmen.

Snowman Head. ( Make 2)

Materials needed:

Small amount of white, black, and orange Worsted weight yarn.

4.5mm hook

4.00mm hook for nose and hat

Yarn needle

Scissors

with 4.5mm hook

For the snowman head start with a magic ring or loosely chain 2

Round 1: Chain 3 ( counts as DC) 11 DC in ring or first chain

Round 2: Chain 3, DC in same space as Chain 3, 2 DC in each of the Dc from round 1. You will have a total of 24 DC

Round 3. Repeat round 2. You will have a total of 48 DC

Round 4. Chain 1, SC in the next 47 Dc from the previous round.

Fasten off leaving a long enough tail to sew the snowman head onto the sweater.

Snowman nose (make 2)

You will need a 4mm hook for this.

Orange worsted weight yarn

Chain 12 and join to form ring. Be careful not to twist the chain

Round 1: chain 2 (counts as a HDC) HDC in each chain. You will have a total of 12 HDC including the first chain 2. Join to top of beginning chain 2

Round 2: chain 2 ( counts as a HDC) HDC in each chain. Join to top of beginning chain 2

Round 3: repeat round 2

Round 3: chain 2 (counts as a HDC) HDC 2 together, 1 HDC in each of the next 2 HDC, HDC 2 together, HDC in each of the next 2 HDC, HDC 2 together, HDC in next HDC, join to the to of the beginning chain 2. (9HDC)

Round 4: chain 2 (counts as HDC) HDC 2 together, 1 HDC in next HDC, HDC 2 together, 1 HDC in next HDC, HDC 2 together, slip stitch to join to to the top of the beginning chain 2.

Slip stitch across from the previous slip stitch to close off top of nose.

Finish off leaving a Tail long enough to attach nose to the snowman.

With yarn needle take top end that you just finished off and pull through the center to the bottom,

Snowman Hat ( make 2)

Leaving a long Tail for sewing the Hat onto the snowman Chain 15.

Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook and in each chain across (14 Sc total)

Row 2: turn, chain 1, SC in each SC across for a total of 14 SC

Row 3: turn, slip stitch in first 4 SC, Sc in next 6 Sc (leave the last 4 stitches uncorked)

Row 4: turn, chain 1 ( does not count as stitch) HDC In the next 6 stitches

Row 5: repeat row 4

Row 6: turn, Sc in each stitch across, finish off

With black yarn sew on eyes and a mouth on the snowman.

Attach nose to center.

Attach hat.
