Lollipop Swirl Dishcloth Pattern

Designed by:  Kris Hill

Stitches Used:

Chain

Slip Stitch

SC = Single Crochet

HDC = Half Double Crochet

DC = Double Crochet

Materials Needed:

4.5 MM Hook

2 skeins of worsted weight cotton yarn in different colors.

Scissors

Yarn Needle

Pattern Notes:

  1. For this spiral pattern you will be working in rounds using 4 separate balls of yarn. You may use 4 separate skeins of cotton but, you do not need to purchase 4 skeins of cotton. If you only have 1 of each color before you start you will need to divide each color into 2 balls.
  2. While learning this technique it is easier if you are working on a flat surface so you can easily drop one color and place it out of the way while using the next one. A flat surface will allow you to rotate the balls while you are moving the piece.
  3. In this pattern I will be referring to each ball of yarn as either A. B. C. D. Balls A & C should be color 1 and balls B and D will be color 2.

With ball A very loosely chain 2, if you chain tightly you should go up a hook size for the chain 2 and then switch to the 4.5mm hook for the rest of the piece.

Round 1:

  • Using ball A put 1 SC, 1 HDC, and 1 DC In the Second chain from the hook. Pull up a large loop of Ball A.
  • With ball B. slip stich into the same chain that you just finished in put 1 SC, 1 HDC, and 1 DC into the same chain. Pull up a large loop of Ball B

  • With ball C slip stich into the same chain that you just finished in put 1 SC, 1 HDC, and 1 DC into the same chain.

  • With ball D slip stich into the same chain that you just finished in put 1 SC, 1 HDC, and 1 DC into the same chain. Do not pull up a loop here.

Round 2: You will start this round using ball D and working into the stitches of ball A.

  • 2 DC in each of the stitches of ball A from the previous round. Pull up a large loop and switch to the loop from ball A
  • With the loop from A place 2 DC in each of the stitches of ball B from the previous round. Pull up a large loop and switch to the loop from ball B
  • With the loop from ball B place 2 DC in each of the stitches of ball C from the previous round. Pull up a large loop and switch to the loop from ball C
  • With the loop from ball C place 2 DC in the first 3 stitches of ball D from the previous round. Do not pull up a loop

Round 3:  You will start this round using ball C continuing to work in the previous stitches of ball D.

  • Place 1 DC in the next stitch, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat this 2 more times. (you will end with 2 DC at the end of the stitches of ball D.) Pull up a large loop from ball C
  • With the loop from ball D place 1 DC in the next stitch, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat this 2 more times. Pull up a large loop from ball D.
  • With the loop from ball A place 1 DC in the next stitch, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat this 2 more times. Pull up a large loop from ball A
  • With the loop from ball B place 1 DC in the next stitch, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat this 2 more times. Do not pull up a loop

Round 4:  you will start this round using Ball B continuing to work into the stitches of Ball A

  • Place 1 DC in the next 2 stitches, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Pull up a loop
  • With the loop from ball C place 1 DC in the next 2 stitches, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Pull up a loop
  • With the loop from ball D place 1 DC in the next 2 stitches, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Pull up a loop
  • With the loop from Ball A place 1 DC in the next 2 stitches, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Do not pull up a loop

Round 5:

  • Continuing with ball A place 1 Dc in the next 3 stitches, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Pull up a loop
  • With the loop from ball B place 1 Dc in the next 3 stitches, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Pull up a loop
  • With the loop from ball C place 1 Dc in the next 3 stitches, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Pull up a loop
  • With the loop from Ball D place 1 Dc in the next 3 stitches, 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Do not pull up a loop

Round 6:

  • Continuing with ball D place 1 DC in the next 4 stitches, 2 DC in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Pull up a loop
  • With the loop from ball A place 1 DC in the next 4 stitches, 2 DC in the next stitch. Repeat 2 more times. Pull up a loop

  • Weave in ends with yarn needle.
