Free Crochet Pattern: Rainbow Swirl Blanket

I was looking for something unique to make for a rainbow baby. I decided on making a 6 skein spiral blanket.

Rainbow Swirl Baby Blanket

Designed by: Kris Hill

Stitches Used:

Chain

Slip Stitch

SC = Single Crochet

HDC = Half Double Crochet

DC = Double Crochet

Materials Needed:

5.5 MM Hook

6 Skeins of Caron Simply soft.

Scissors

Yarn Needle

Stitch Markers

Pattern Notes:

1. For this spiral pattern you will be working in rounds using 6 separate skeins of yarn.

2. While learning this technique it is easier if you are working on a flat surface so you can easily drop one color and place it out of the way while using the next one. A flat surface will allow you to rotate the skeins while you are moving the piece.

3. I use a wine bag to help keep the skeins from tangling when I am not working on the project

Colors Used:

Red

Orange

Yellow

Green

Blue

Purple

With Red very loosely chain 2, if you chain tightly you should go up a hook size for the chain 2 and then switch to the 5.5 mm hook for the rest of the piece.

Round 1:

• Continue with Red in the first chain 1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, Pull up large loop with red ( I use a stitch marker to hold loop)

• With Orange in the same chain slip stitch 1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, Pull up large loop and place stitch marker to hold loop

• With Yellow in the same chain slip stitch 1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, Pull up large loop and place stitch marker to hold loop

• With Blue in the same chain slip stitch 1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, Pull up large loop and place stitch marker to hold loop

• With Purple in the same chain slip stitch 1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, Do not pull up a loop and place stitch marker to hold loop

Rainbow Swirl, Rainbow Baby Blanket Pattern has been released

I am happy to announce that the Rainbow Swirl, Rainbow Baby Blanket is now available in my Etsy shop.

If you are not familiar with crocheting in spiral I would recommend that you attempt the Lollipop swirl dishcloth pattern to help you get the hang of it.

A little hint if you are working with multiple skeins. The Wine bags that you receive from the grocery store when you buy multiple bottles of wine are great to help keep your skeins from tangling.
