Sweeping Away the Cold

Sweeping Away the Cold, Fingerless Gloves and Scarf Set

Materials needed:

Yarn Bee Glowing 4 skeins 792 yards

2mm crochet hook

US 19/15mm Knitting needle

Stitch markers

Yarn needle

Scissors

Stitches used:

1. Chain

2. Slip stitch

3. Yarn over

4. SC. = Single Crochet

5. HDC = Half Double Crochet

6. FPHDC = Front Post Half Double Crochet

7. BPHDC = Back Post Half Double Crochet

Sweeping Away the Cold, Broomstick Lace Fingerless Gloves.

Adult Size

Pattern Notes: This pattern is worked up in rows and then sewn together. If you would like the gloves to be longer just add more rows.

Chain 50 leaving a tail long enough to sew the gloves together

Rows 1 -12

1. Pull up 50 loops over the knitting needle

2. Keeping the yarn behind the knitting needle Insert crochet hook under the first 5 loops on the knitting needle, yarn over, slip stitch over the first 5 loops. This does not count as a stitch.

• Carefully slide all of the loops off of the knitting needle.

• Sc over the first 5 loops.

Repeat parts 1 & 2 until you have 12 complete rows of broomstick lace

Finish off leaving 3 inches of yarn for sewing

With right side facing inside fold the piece in half

Place One of the stitch markers at the bottom of the second row from the top making sure you attach both sides together

Place the other stitch marker two rows below the first stitch marker. The space in between will become the thumb hole.

Sew the pieces together

Turn piece right side out

You will be working in rounds for the remainder of the pattern

Round 13. Join yarn to bottom of the gloves evenly space 36 HDC around the bottom, Slip stich to first HDC Chain 1.

(chain One does not count as a stitch here or the rest of the pattern)

Row 14. FPHDC in first HDC, BPHDC in next HDC repeat until you have 18 FPHDC and 18 BPHDC, Slip stitch to first FPHDC chain 1

Row 15. Repeat row 14

Row 16. Repeat row 14. Finish off weave in ends

Child Size

Make 2

Chain 35 leaving a 6 inch tail for sewing when you start

Rows 1-9

1) Pull up 35 loops over knitting needle

2) Keeping the yarn behind the knitting needle Insert crochet hook under the first 5 loops on the knitting needle, yarn over, slip stitch over the first 5 loops. This does not count as a stitch.

• Carefully slide all of the loops off of the knitting needle.

• SC over the first 5 loops.

Follow the instructions for the adult pattern for stitch marker placement then continue to round 10.

Round 10: Join yarn to bottom of the glove evenly space 22 HDC around the bottom, Slip stitch to first HDC, Chain 1 (does not count as stitch)

Round 11: FPHDC in first HDC, BPHDC in next HDC. Repeat until you come to the beginning of the round. Slip stitch to first FPHDC.

Round 12: Repeat row 11

Round 13: Repeat row 11

Finish off and weave in ends.

Chain 40

Pattern Notes:

Follow the broomstick lace pattern and continue on until you have your desired length.

When joining a new skein I have found the easiest way is to join at the beginning of a SC Crochet row.
