My Broomstick Lace Addiction

I have read several comments on various facebook groups recently with people saying that they find broomstick lace it a bit intimidating. I am going to attempt to break it down and make it a bit easier to understand.

Broomstick Lace Crochet

For Broomstick lace crochet, the knitting needle is just a tool to hold the loops. You do not need to know how to knit to do this stitch.

Supplies Needed:

A large size knitting needle or a dollar store broomstick handle will work just fine

A crochet hook

Scissors

Yarn needle

I would suggest learning this stitch with worsted weight yarn.

Each row of broomstick lace is completed in two parts:

1. Pull up loops over knitting needle.

2. Keeping your working yarn behind the knitting needle Place crochet hook under the first 5 loops on knitting needle slip stitch over the 5 loops on hook.

• 5 SC over first 5 loops

• Carefully slide the loops off of the knitting needle

• Place the next 5 loops on your hook

• 5 SC over the 5 loops

• Place the next 5 loops on your hook

• 5 SC over the 5 loops

Continue to place 5 loops on your hook followed by 5 SC over the loops until you have reached the end. This is one complete row of Broomstick lace.

Broomstick lace row 2:

• Pull up a loop and place it over the crochet hook

• Turn knitting needle so the wrong side is facing you

• Insert crochet hook under next SC and pull up a loop

• Place loop over the crochet hook

• Continue pulling up loops until you have pulled up a loop in the last SC of the first row.

• Turn knitting needle so the right side of the piece is facing you.

• Place crochet hook under the first 5 loops

• Slip stitch around all five loops

• 5 SC around the 5 loops

• Continue this until you have reached the end.

• Repeat Row 2 until you have the amount of rows the pattern requires.

Here are some of the Broomstick lace projects I have made recently or am in the process of making.
